Ableton Push 3 Is My Synthesizer

In today's video, we use the Ableton Push 3 as a synthesizer to be sampled in the Elektron Digitakt 2. We will take advantage of the stereo sampling on the Digitakt and the MPE synthesizers on the Push 3 to make some chill house music and electronica.

Long-time Live user, and I also own Push 2. I keep trying to persuade myself that Push 2 (or Push 3) can cover a lot of bases that my Elektron gear (Digitakt, Syntakt, Digitone) currently covers plus a lot more besides. I've tried using Push 2 with Elektron boxes (via Overbridge) which on paper is an immensely powerful combination. But.... the Push is so SLOW compared with Digitakt etc. Can do far more for sure, but the endless pages to click through to change parameters just gets old, fast. Still on the fence about the whole Push thing TBH.

Amazing video! I have Push too and I would like to buy Digitakt. I have just one doubt: since the Push already has sampler, sequencer and beat making functions, what additional elements does the Digitakt bring in combined use?

Thanks for this video. It's good to see you trying to deep-dive into this thing and make it work in your process. I just sent back my Push 3 (controller-only version) this past week. It just didn't fit into the way I make anything, because I tended to still use a mouse/keyboard to control Ableton and my plethora of 3rd party VST instruments (such as the Arturia V-Collection). I mean, I could midi-map some things, but to do anything deep I need to use the mouse. While it was nice for some things, I still spent over 75% of my time just using the mouse in Ableton. So, at least for me, it just didn't meld for me. I'm just going to wait for the Digitakt II (I love the original, but it was getting long-in-the-tooth, even with the great updates).

To send/receive midi wireless, maybe try cme widi dongles, does usb midi too as well as ble

I find it so funny that you can fly through the elektron but find the workflow of the push 3 difficult. Ableton is pure launch of clips and groupings of events called a session. The thing that I just can’t get into is the menu diving. It should have been touch screen with the amount of features that are there. Push to me missed the mark. I am a die hard Ableton user who uses akai force as a scratch pad because the Ableton hardware is terrible.

Great video. How are you routing the audio in this setup? Is it Push to DT2 and DT2 + Syntakt to OT?

This. I switched from Elektron to Push 3 this year and it’s just too cumbersome. Immensely powerful and immensely cumbersome. Also hate the flat, stiff buttons and enormous foot print. It’s a very expensive transport control for me.
