I recently found out Canada allows 400, 000 plus immigrants into the country each year.
I am not opposed to immigrants but are we even remotely close to.providing adequate housing for all these new citizens?
By comparison the US only has been receiving 300, 000 new immigrants each year, a country ten times better equipped and they say it's stretching their resources.

There are a lot more people who are homeless than just indigenous and who will pay for it?

Giving foreigners a house for nothing meanwhile canadian born citizens can't afford a house. Seems right to me

We might as well try something new because what we've been doing for a number of years hasn't worked well.

What’s the crisis?

We obviously have enough housing for everyone considering we’re bringing in 500, 000 people a year.

As housing minister what did David eBay do for affordable housing??

Instead of demonizing ppl for putting in a suit in their basement or carrigehouse on their garage, make it easy for them, grants and such. Building houses doesn't fix the problem as who can afford a mortgage on a 800k house???

Getting rid of step code/ net zero ready would bring down costs of new construction as well.

By referring independently to one group being poor is discriminatory in itself Canadian.
The poor in BC are from all groups of a society that call itself inclusive.
Why are indigenous more important than I am in finding affordable housing?
It’s ok to see me on the street but not them?
Pretending to do good for one while discriminating against others and ourselves is that the status quo?
It sure looks like it all around
May the Lord God have mercy on humanity

Log cabins with solar power and a wood burning stove. Nothing fancy but something that lasts. I mean it's the way settlers built their homes (minus the solar power) and their homes lasted decades. You can literally build 100 in 3 months with a decent builders crew.

All they have to do is zone property individuals are allowed to buy. If corporations get 100% of every lot ever zoned, housing will never belong to Canadians.

Many of these comments have valid points but I have to wonder if any of them actually live in bc housing. I do. It is a zoo. These places are not kept up very well. Very poorly managed. It's like living in a slum with a nice paint job. These places are no prize. And yet we need more of them. My building for example (Grant McNeil in north vancouver) is way over housed. What I mean by that is we have several 3 bedroom units being occupied by a single parent with one child, or two bedroom units with a single occupant. If Bc Housing was run properly perhaps we would have more housing for those who need it. We also seem to have one set of rules for some people and another for others. While some have more rooms than they actually qualify for, we also have a family of 5 crammed into a two bedroom. I myself couldn't have a two bedroom apartment because my daughter was 17 and going to college. they told me I didn't qualify for a two bedroom apartment. I have lived here for 15yrs now and it would seem that rule only applied to me.
If BC housing had any real oversight it might go a long way to getting more people housed in the buildings we already have. As horrible as they are.
