I tracked every dollar we spent in September on JUST food groceries. I tried so so hard to buy as little as possible and make very budget friendly meals with minimal snacks. We're also a family of 6 (in CA) and I've got teen boys. My grand total was $1100 but all month my kids were complaining that there was never anything to eat! 😬 Ugh now I bet I'll spend a ton in October.
