Sometimes elevators park at a certain floor, so if an elevator is not being used, it goes to a floor and stays there until called by someone.

This elevator was probably installed for ADA compliance.

Hey, I had a curious experience in a lift a while back that I thought someone might be able to help me with. Was staying at a hotel for a few days and one of the 4 lifts didn't like my door card so wouldn't read it when I got on. The door closed, still not reading the card. Then the lift just took off on it's own, went up about 5 levels, and stopped. Nothing happened until I opened the door. Nobody called the lift and it was late at night, so not many people around.

Why would a lift do this?
