I love CIoran, I got many of his essaies and there are some insane quotes in there. Very provocative sometimes, which helps to push reflexion

I like the quote, it is well put, but I say it once he discovered that "stone" he had forgotten to "m" with that stone, because he had found that he himself is on the same side with that realization...

he had forgotten to include time in the statement, simply asking "does he owe for life he had already lived, and in what way he would like to pay back"....

I had chronic depression from 8 to 23 years old, and i understand people expressing the meaninglessness of life philosophically, artistically or even scientifically. One thing i don't quite get, is people trying to convince others of the same worldview. Either very misguided or cruel creatures would try to take away the meaning in other people's lives. It is something i wouldn't recommend even to my worst enemies. Not because it is a lie, but because of the damaging consequences of such an idea.

If there is no meaning in the universe then meaning doesn't exist as a concept except in the minds of those asking what the meaning is. Meaning must then be a relative term and things only mean anything to entities which are capable of defining it for themselves. My life has meaning to me, and the fact it has no greater 'meaning' in the universe is inconsequential. The definition of meaning is only what I define. I am the creator of meaning.
