Earlier this year my cousin (who was a huge 30stm fan like I am) passed away very suddenly. He and I had been planning to go to Camp Mars together this September - he’d always wanted to go and see Malibu and see Thirty Seconds to Mars in concert. This was by far his favorite song that they have done thus far. When we went camping in the mountains by Malibu earlier this year, shortly after he passed, we spread his ashes to this song, right at the first “Into the great wide open / across a land of blood and dreams.” This song has so much meaning to my entire family now, and I can’t thank Thirty Seconds to Mars enough for the strength that it gives us every time we hear it. I know that in the specific turn of events, Jared and Shannon and Tomo had no hand, but without their music my life just wouldn’t be the same.
