I have to be quite desperate to buy anything but gasoline there. I certainly don't need a €4 chocolate bar or a €6 Coke

I’ve literally only ever bought petrol

I worked in a petrol station and probably half the people who bought fuel, bought fuel and nothing else.

I only buy fuel. They over charge you on everything

Glad the comments section is similar to me! Broadly only ever buy petrol personally.

Interestingly though theres a Tesco petrol station near me and i dont think the markup is different from the other local tesco dedicated store, i.e. with clubcard prices, just a bit less of a range. So its a bit more justifiable to grab milk, mixers, little bits from there if im in filling the tank up.

Other dedicated stations just have too much of a markup on most items.

Tldr if the price is right then petrol stations are fine to grab other small items at the same time, but generally not.

If you've got a child in the car too then it might be more human nature/tempting to get them something while you're in also.

"When was the last time you stoped at a gas station and only bought gas?"

Last time.
And the one before.
And the one before.
And the one before that and so on.

Why would you buy stuff at a gas station?
Have you seen the prices they have there?

Never in my life have I bought anything but gas at a gas station.

You can tell he's in marketing because most of his videos sound quite convincing until you realise with any amount of thought or research that most of what he says is complete rubbish.

I usually ONLY buy petrol at the petrol station. I find almost everything else is higher priced (for convenience) than I can get elsewhere. Conversely, there's a petrol station at the top of my parents road that they use for convenience shopping (bread/milk etc), but almost never use for petrol as it's often considerably pricier than the local out of town supermarket.

I have family who have been in gas station business for over 30 years. I think a more logical spin on this theory would be that most petrol stations do not make massive amounts of profits by selling petrol alone. Levies and Taxes applied and the price of fuel has made it increasingly difficult to have a large margin. The pumps literrally have to be operating 24 hours a day and the catch is you break the bank if you keep ordering fuel throughout the month, but you are seen as a lesser petrol station if you dont have abundant reserves of petrol. This is where the shops at these stations come in. They are the golden nuggets of this business. The convenience value proposition affords these station operators the luxury of overcharging customers while maintaining good bargaining power with their shop item suppliers because of the name and brand behind the petrol station. I don’t agree with the fact that everyone suddenly becomes impulse buyers as soon as they stop for petrol. That is not true. But i can say that people will go to the gas stations to shop instead of going to buy fuel because its the closest shop.

Maybe where he's from but in America we mostly just fill up our tanks and leave. He's also says you buy something else cuz you pay inside, but everybody here pays outside at the pump.

The more this guy talks the more i understand that he talks about 'humans' hes only talking about the rich. I make a decent wage and wouldnt dream of getting anything at a gas station except gas, the markup is unjustifiable to anyone even vaguely budget concious.

I never buy anything but petrol at a petrol station. Anything sold inside is always over priced....

Midwest America would love this but the hiccup isn't that it's just fuel it's the fact the fuel will cost more because you pay for the gas to get there and pay for the person who fills your tank. Alongside the fact gas has a very small profit margin at a gas station level they 100% do rely on the convenience at a gas station

Petrol station stuff is so expensive in Australia, we only buy when on long trips. I haven't bought non petrol items in 20 years.

Plus, there’s nearly no profit from the gasoline. Almost all of it is tax, that’s why there are convenience stores attached to gas stations in the first place. In order to make any money from a roving petrol service, the service fee would have to be sky high! Nobody would pay for that! Also, what if people need diesel? You’d need a whole other vehicle for that, too.

I can't remember the last time I bought something at a gas station. But then again I'm not filthy stinking rich. Like a 2 liter of soda which cost $2.50 out of Walmart cost like $6 at a gas station
