Madame Web Is A $150,000,000 Filler Episode

Madame Web (2024) by Sony and Columbia Pictures is currently getting torched by critics, and will likely become yet another flop in the studio's "Sony Spider-Man Universe". What's going on, and how can they turn the ship around?

I kinda think that the avengers origins through infinity war story arc was so sweeping and then came to a nice neat wrapped up conclusion that not only have other studios been trying to duplicate it but also marvel it self is struggling making lightning strike twice (insert Thor joke here).

In another universe, the SSU would’ve been the Insomniac Spiderman games come to life but all we got was Morbin time.

5 years and 8 months is a very generous time-frame for Sony to be making Spider-Man movies. It will not take that long for the next Spider-Verse movie to come out, why did they feel the need to create Madame Web?

Maybe we’re in the Silver (or Bronze) Age of comic book movies. We had our Golden Age of Dark Knight, Winter Soldier and the Infinity War arc.

Now the writers (and producers, etc) don’t know how to keep the train going - though they know that they have to.

This is genuinely how I learned Morbius was meant to be part of the Sony Spiderman Universe, only having known it from the memes. This fact makes it both funnier and sadder, given the poor state of the superhero genre in screen format at the moment 😞

I agree, superhero fatigue is a myth. People are desperate to soak up good superhero fiction; look at Across The Spider-verse. People just know what to expect these days and are tired of giving the studios another chance they know they will regret.

I agree that most of the people involved in making the movie know when something is bad… What I don’t understand at all is none of these people speaking up, suggesting any changes, flat out refusing to do certain things, or whatever interventions may be possible (I don’t know I don’t work in the industry) But it’s often stated that people are in fear of powerful directors/studios etc, But we’re not talking about the bottom of the rung, powerless, faceless workers that need to bring it up. There are big name stars and industry leaders involved here, These are people who have power in themselves so why are they not saying something to protect their own brands and refusing to make these terrible decisions???

It's the same logic with video game devs/pubs. Fortnite happen now everyone is tripping over themselves trying to get that money. Yet not trying anywhere as much as the OG.
