Late comment but I unlocked the puzzle solver by not doing any of the battle puzzles. I kept pressing the A button. After a few hours of battling enemies this way I got the notification that I had unlocked the puzzle solver! I was at the end of the game last night but I had no idea that this puzzle solver was a thing. So I started all over. I want to see if this works for any boss battles.
