The part that rusts in the gas tank is called the fuel pressure and temperature sensor. It is not under recall, it has a technical service bulletin only in the US where they replace it for free under a 10 year extended warranty, every other country they will charge you to replace it up to $1500. You can manually open it using the green pull tab by the windshield washer filler neck or, you can cut through the hole in the lower peg in the gas filler door, that way if it fails to release, just pull the gas filler door slightly and it will open. I fill my tank about once a year, and I watch this video every time before I do.

Hello, have the same problem as well. Do you have any idea, what was changed? My service is trying it for few days with no luck. Bmw told me no recall on this. Thank you

I also have the same exact problem with 2014 i3 Rex. The dealer told me to long press the button release inside the car for about 6 seconds. I've done that procedure many times and 95% of the time, it never worked. I'm thinking of taking it back to the dealer for a fix.
