Stop Wasting Money On Stud Extractors - Here's A Better Solution!

# shorts When removing a threaded stud, you don’t need a stud extractor. I was a maintenance engineer in two chemical plants and I never used a single stud extractor, I always used two nuts and used them as per this demo. If you need to remove studs from an engine block, such as inlet manifold or exhaust manifold bolts, I would apply a little heat to the studs first, then let them cool before attempting to remove them.

I’ve not managed to get another video edited, so here is another short. I hope everyone has a great Sunday 😉

Nice presentation. 🙏 I've always replaced bolts, nuts, and studs that hold exhaust manifolds and exhaust flanges. Like reading other people's comments too. After numerous heat cycles, they lose their metallurgical properties, even after cleaning with wire brushes, wire wheels, thread chasers, and thread restorers, the crusty threads generally cannot be tightened to the manufacturer specifications.

This works if you have enough meat left on the stud to thread on two nuts and jam them up against each other. Another approach would be to use one nut and give it a spot weld. If at all possible, use a flare nut wrench or a box wrench if you can get the two nuts to line up. An open wrench will put way too much pressure on two flats and round off the nut.

Most stud extraction is because the stud has sheared off or thread damage. This technique is the best by far if you have enough thread left otherwise worth keeping a the various stud extraction tools and drills as backup. Bain of a mechanic life.

Bro do that on a 2008 Silverado after the stud has broken in half while removing the ypipe and then i'll believe it works.

Such a simple yet effective technique for removing a bolt. So many of us wouldn't have thought that something so easy is possible. Thank you for sharing x

If you run out of room to do it, use a chissel and some rust spray to get some of that rusty mountain away from the threaded part of your stud, then do this trick with the two nuts.

Only technique I use, no damage and no need to change parts (in most cases*)

That’s great but what if you don’t have the space for a wrench your gonna need that stud puller

This technique doesn't work if threads have been damaged, which is the case that I am dealing with right now!

That’s a Blackburn accent if I ever heard one! 👍👍

That's OK if you only have one to extract. Might has well invested in a stud extractor . Save you time
