Hey, I came here from Reddit. I always thought video game sound effects took a lot of audio wizardry that I don't know, but you showed that it was wayyyy simpler than I thought! Great video, I subscribed :)

I like the sound but I think the tin foil on the charge up sounds too much like tin foil. Maybe if you pitch shifted it up or high passed it it would sound more electrical.

I think you could take the bass a lot farther with this sound effect and it would be very beneficial. You pitch shifted the slap down which helped, but it still feels flat and lacks the meatiness that you see in the visual. You expect a deep FOOP but it's more of a PLAP. I don't feel much dynamic range to this sound effect, particularly on the low end, which makes it a poor match to what should be a deep yet soft explosion, IMO.

Another weakness is the crackling of the lightning. I just can't hear it as anything but tinfoil. It just doesn't have the electric buzz I expect, and it seems to fizzle out instead of building up. This 'electricity' sound in the mix cuts out before the electricity visual effect fades, which causes further disconnect.

I'm no audio engineer but I can picture in my head ways that these sounds could be tweaked with effects to make them work better. You might try layering more versions of the slap with more pitch shifting and mess with stretching out the timing on the deeper ones, maybe try playing the crackling backward, and get some more of that recording layered in so it sounds more like the electricity is building up, maybe some kind of additional distortion on the crackle might give it that electric edge it needs.

Good vid! You never said what you used to record your sounds or what software you were working with, that I noticed. Maybe you did and I missed it?
