To use the "trick" do not forget to put a 1 1/2 inch block under the off screen end of the 2x6. If you don't, the cuts will be off.

You forgot to show that you need to add the same measure of the height of the bottom wood at the other end. Just cutting this part doesn't work.

Great way to "trick" someone on cutting birdsmouths so they will not fit.

As a builder plz don’t do this as you have to take into consideration ridge height and roof pitch. Learn to use a framing square

No old carpenter would do this. He would lay out with a framing square. Someone who does not know what he doing would do this. Coming from a OLD CARPENTER 😊

be aware! This is a useless "trick." You need to know the angle/pitch for the roof and use a framing square or speed square to mark the cuts for the bird's mouth's

make sure the top of the rafter is sat above the ridge by the same width of the your scribing with

As and old carpenter; I can guarantee I have never done this… 🙈

He forgot that the angle changes when the piece is lowered into place. There's a way to do that, but he doesn't know it.
I'm surprised so many people missed that point.

No one ever shows the top portion of the rafter because this will not work here unless you compensate for that portion. Apparently, these so-called carpentry people on YouTube have no clue how to do real carpentry.

Now teach them how to get a rafter length and how to add the overhang

My grandpa and Uncle Eddie always knew the pitch and used a framing square.Always worked perfectly.Cut with handsaws too.

I’m glad people on here know their stuff and tell us what crap this is … saves simpletons like me wasting time and money ❤

Thank you for the video.
I have needed such a cut, for an end rafter. The contractors with whom I have spoken either don't know this or did not want to share the information.

Thanks, again, and keep up the good work.
