This documentary seems to suffer from the usual hype which Hollywood generates for all its creations. Unfortunately if you are able to comprehend the scale of the systems in the biosphere, the hype turns out to be just a simple statement of the facts. The magnitudes are awe inspiring. We should be humbled by this knowledge. Our world is an awesome place. Let's not fuck it up out of ignorance.

And one final question. What is the sustainable human population of the Earth? I don't have the answer. But my instinct tells me we are either over that limit or approaching it fast. What happens next? I can promise you that if humanity exceeds that limit the biosphere will adjust human population numbers. Possibly all the way back to zero.

I am an engineer. Occasionally I hear suggestions that man should/can engineer the Earth to suit human existence. What hubris this is. Look at the size and scale of energies, the volume and mass of material that make up the Earth, and compare it with man's mightiest works. Man's works pale into insignificance. If man wishes to survive in the thin band of the biosphere we should strive to understand how it works and behave compatibly with it, not arrogantly assume we can dominate and control it. This concept that the Earth was made for man by a supernatural being is a falsehood born out of man's total ignorance of the biosphere thousands of years ago. It is time now that man should deny that concept and accept our relatively insignificant part that biosphere. The consequence of not accepting our insignificance will be the extinction of the human species in common with 98% of all species which have existed. Make your choice and accept the consequences.

If earth is pulled at its equator it'll be walnut shaped one day.. Maybe the planets will all roll over & earth will become a new Mars etc...! Its not what the book says but we're told everything will change! Velikovsky would have liked this idea!

The graphics are pretty good in this documentary. I can only hope that the artist was guided by a knowledgeable scientist so that flights of fantasy were curtailed.
