In case anyone is interested... the resolution to board column order is reordering the fields in the column that this board is based on. For that you must go to grid view and from the column's drop down select edit. Remove any selections you don't want and reorder them. The only one you don't have control over is unassigned, which apparently doesn't actually look at the unassigned field to get its value. Cheers!
