This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Using Zen sensibilities of simplicity and clarity
as his guide, Garr Reynolds re-introduces us to the craft and power of a well-told story.

Communications Expert
Amid the complexities of our daily modern lives there is the deeper realization that “less is more”. For Garr Reynolds, this Zen sensibility of striving for simplicity and clarity is the foundation upon which he guides others towards better communication skills and better lives. As a Professor of Management and Design at Kansai Gaidai University, author, designer and world-renowned communications consultant, Garr helps others achieve “more” by embracing the power and beauty of “less”.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Story telling.
The Basics of Writing, Algis Budrys. L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Vol. XVI (Sixteen). Seven Step Program. Character, Context, Conflict. Beginning, Middle, End. You have a character in a context with a conflict (situation with tension). He has to try and fail 3 times. Try and fail, try and fail, try and fail, try and win or fail (triumph or tragedy, people remember tragedies forever (Old Yeller, Bambi)). Validation. Along the way, character enlightenment. You could have a partial success instead of a “try and fail”. Put a hook in early that leaves the reader puzzled and wanting more. “If I lived another 10 minutes something very bad would happen.”
"Made to Stick" by Chip Heath is a great book. All the books by Chip and Dan Heath are very good.
