July 22, 2024
"Effective today, all POGOs are banned,” declared President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa, Quezon City on July 22, 2024.
The President announced the ban to finally put an end to the grave abuse and disrespect made by Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) to the country's system of laws, stating that "disguising as legitimate entities, their operations have ventured into illicit areas furthest from gaming such as financial scamming, money laundering, prostitution, human trafficking, kidnapping, brutal torture, even murder."
He directed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to cease all POGO operations by year end, as well as ordered the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) alongside his Economic Managers to find new jobs for Filipino POGO workers who will be displaced by the ban.
Though this move will solve many problems, the President urged his countrymen, including all officials, law enforcers, government workers and the public to always be vigilant, principled and think of the "health of the nation" to solve all problems that the country has been suffering.
"Mga minamahal kong kababayan, lagi po nating labanan ang mali at ang masama. Lagi po natin ipaglaban ang tama at ang mabuti. Lagi po nating mahalin ang Pilipinas. Lagi po nating mahalin ang Pilipino. Mabuhay po kayo at mabuhay ang Bagong Pilipinas," President Marcos Jr. ended in his SONA.
