How Can I Love My Voice? Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

More often than not, I hear people say they hate the sound of their voice.

This is particularly true for newer singers.

It's also true, in some sense, for those that feel that they have not found "their real voice".

This could be broken down to even smaller elements where people don't like the sound of their voice when they try to sing higher or a little out of their range.

In this video, I walk you through some simple steps that you can do to start loving the sound of your voice.

Many of you may or may not know, but I hated the sound of my voice when I first started to learn to sing.

It took me about two years before I started to appreciate small aspects of my singing.

The more I worked at it, the more I recorded my voice, and the more I tried to get influences of singers that I liked, the better I became.

Let's explore this together, shall we?

I record myself but instead of trying to sound like anyone else I just make stupid noises to play around with all the different placements and resonances, and over time it's like I finally sound in the recording how I think I sound to my ear (if that makes sense, like when I play back I sound the same as what I expect). Also, I only 'sing along' with a song long enough to learn the lyrics and phrasing. After that you have to just sing by yourself and build it into your own muscle memory.

Still don't love my voice but... I can definitely hear improvement. So that keeps me going. One day at a time. 😊

Your message is so empowering! And your energy is like a fresh, crisp breeze that makes me think about the relation between singing and the general flow of ones energies.

I can relate I'm a guitar player, my voice is okay but you definitely have good advice... Once I break the barrier down and start singing and sing within my limits then I do fine... Don't try to sing like somebody your ain't... Just sing like yourself, cuz when you're playing up in the bar nobody cares anyway....hahaha.. the most important thing is believe in yourself and be your own

I think what you've said here makes perfect sense. I have a hard time imagining a time you weren't satisfied with your voice, though because in all honesty, I think you're the best male vocalist I have ever heard- even including the most famous of names. But you having been probably overly critical and hard on yourself, it shows how your hard work has truly paid off. I could listen to you sing all day and sometimes I do!

I play in the garden pub 3 times a week. Although I still don't like my voice, guests throw money into my hat for my singing. Conclusion: Either all the guests are deaf, or my voice sounds better than I perceive it me....😁

I remember when I taught myself to sing one of the first things I had to do was take off the headphones. That is, not sing along to my favorite songs with headphones on. I realize that wasnt helping me learn.

Same with guitar. Ill take one of the ear muffs off and tbrn play along with the track.

Really good advice. Kinda when you learn a guitar part: slow it down and play it slow. Learn it in phrases or parts. Youll get thefe, but you gotta be patient...❤

The first few times I heard my voice I hated it too. But now after just over a year and a half of following your course, it's definitely improving slowly month by month. I started with damage from years of bad post nasal drip. I did everything light, like you said and repaired it. If anyone hasn't bought the course, definitely do it. Like Ken says, it takes practice and putting in the time.
