In the story of my family there are tales, there is one that said they where expelled from Spain to the Canary Islands and later to Puerto Rico and Cuba where they where atheist or Masons, the story said. My mom use to say that in my daddy's family they where "espiritistas" (spiritualists, metaphysics) or/and "masones" (Masons). I even have in my possession a sword from my great grandfathers that he cut in half to use it as a machete to work the forest of the island.
Another interesting note to end is from my 2014 visit to Barcelona, in the churches of Maria Del Mar (mostly dedicates to fisherman of the time it was build) there is a tile in the entrance with a carved skull and bones. I would like to show it here but I'll try to send it to you on Facebook.
