Use This Trick to Make Your Garage Door Bulletproof!

We used a piece of scrap Azek material (PVC) to make a foot for our garage door framing to sit on. This way, a little water won't wick up into the end grain and doom our entrance!

I also used to use roofing shingles, anytime concrete met wood. Any waterproofing barrier helps. I wasn’t in the construction field but proud to say that the 4 homes I built are still standing strong. And I believe it’s because of little reasons such as that. Boy do I wish they made that plastic materials such as the one you used in this video back then. It would have made life a little easier. But we managed;). Also, whenever possible, try not to have end grain against concrete, I know, I know, that’s not always possible. Great video, great info.

Did the same move with some cedar posts using lexel to close the end grain and then went on top of that with zip. I like the PVC detail even better, great idea!

Did you fill the screw holes with lexel? That water route (minimal as it usually is) frequently gets missed!
