To anyone wondering how they get the rope through, the pipe isn’t 100% blocked. The obstruction sits at the bottom of the pipe while the rope floats right over top of it. If the rope doesn’t go through then that is what tells you it’s 100% blocked up and you need a different method such as breaking up the clog with a cable and drum set-up or a machine called a jetter which basically does the same thing as this but it can push from only one side with immense water pressure instead of needing to pull from the other side of the clog so it can handle total obstructions or pipes with only one usable entrance which is like 99% of them

Notice the rope extends out of the other end of the pipe. If the rope does break, the other end of the rope (without tension) is still attached to the tire and it can be pull out from the opposite end.
