1970 Datsun 240Z Series 1

European cars have been coming into the U.S. in dribs and drabs until this point.
1970 seemed to be a pivotal point for imports. Motor Trend magazine began their famous “Import Car of the Year” in 1970 with the Porsche 914 as their choice.

Interestingly the style for the 240Z was based on the styling of the Toyota 2000 GT. A Toyota 2000 GT can be seen in the James Bond Movie, “You Only Live Twice”.

According to Car & Driver, When Datsun introduced the 240Z in they didn’t refer to it as a sports car. The people at Datsun called it a “Personal GT”.

Equipped with a 2.4 liter six cylinder engine, producing 151 HP.

16,215 were sold in the U.S. in 1970. 240Z lasted through 1973
