The end result looked fabulous. Everyone likes potatoes and there are so many ways to cook them. Your cheese and potato pie is very much like what I made recently, called Loaded Mashed Potatoes. I used Yukon Gold potatoes, and sweet onions. Also lots of butter, and milk or cream, and this one called for a little sour cream too. It also called for fried crispy bacon bits, but I skipped that. Lots of cheese on top before baking.
I wish I could find the sharp cheddar cheese here that is natural color like yours. Ours is orange.
I loved that grater, never seen one like that, so handy, better than a box grater. And it made the best sounds too. You did a good job trying not to bang the utensils loudly, well done.

this recipe looks delicious! here in Brazil (🇧🇷 ) we have a very similar one called "Escondidinho". We use mashed potatoes or manioc (I like it better with potatoes). I mix the boiled potatoes with milk, butter, salt and cheese, and for the filling I use shredded chicken or minced beef (well seasoned). I make a layer of each in the bowl and top with more cheese before putting it in the oven. It's like a little piece of heaven
