The hardest one is resisting the phone (and even other electronics). The phone is the downfall of ever ADHD adult. Society makes it near impossible to go without one. I used to leave it in the car for extended periods of time at work. But then I started needing it for 2 factor authentication on my work computer. Then with covid spreading like wildfire in schools, I also needed to keep it close by in case my son's school called. Then the wifi at work wasn't great, so I decided I needed my phone to play my music for focus without interruption. 😅 Tried app blockers with limited success. Our tech-controlled society has made ADHD 10x harder to manage.

I had never heard of maritime pilots until your discussion of the Dali. Definitely one of those "unsung hero" occupations.

I love candy!!! When I go to the supermarket I go with a full belly most of the time.
Another thing I do is asking myself "Do I need this candy?"

I have also taken advantage of my poor impulse control. Some video games take a long time to download. When I lose the battle of wills to download a problematic game I can always flip the script and impulsively uninstall it. Downloading the game and playing it requires executive function at this point. My impulsiveness to delete the game has become a strategy at that point

My technique was simple, yet powerful. In truth, I am a genius for having discovered it. This I shall share to you all right now.
How I quit my Youtube addiction is by spending 3 years mostly depressed, I was able to make myself so repulsed by it that I can't even look at another YouTube drama thumbnail.
3 years, mostly depressed, in a disgustingly messy room. Today if I step around my bed, and my foot knocks on something that shouldnt be there, I lose my mind and furiously start clearing all clutter.
I must be the only person ridiculous enough to compulsively to the extent that it eventually repulses me and makes me stop for good.

(this is also how I reduced my nicotine intake. I vaped so much that mouth drying sugary poison makes me want to hurl. Now I've switching to nicotine gum and just want to get rid of it altogether.)

I think that's difficult because those prosseses occur rapidly in seconds and because of lack of attention, self awareness about situation or thoughts or response we couldn't do that without improving our attention our awareness and our Excutive functions.

devaluation - I have been doing this for many many years. It helps maybe ~50% of the time. No more than that. Most of the time, the ‘Gross’ Process Model’ steps are faster than I can think… no to little time to intervene. I realize people are trying to be helpful. At work, there is a LOT less that can be done that was suggested.

I think this is why some people devalue other people bc they don't want to be tempted out of their own control

Why did the ADHDer cross the road? They didn't - they were daydreaming and walked the plank instead.

Seriously though, one of my biggest fears is I'm going to get hit by a bus because my attention is on something shiny when I cross the road :|

Double down on the benefits of the alternative. Use adjectives to sell it to yourself. LIE, exaggerate, be like the most persistent sales rep.

<This apple will be so sweet & juicy & crunchy, it smells SO fresh.>

Hey great content but I have recommendation to improve view engagement. You literally have hovered over an article that is not meant to be read for first half of video. My attention was diverted and I was doing other things and not even listened and lucky realized and returned back to video. I Know it is hard to put too much effort in video but It is so hard to get into video with a start like that. You can help more people like me if you have just like 2 slide or summary in visual representation while you are spekaing
