I don't know if it's just a popular style or if the instruments have any relation but my mandolin has a very similar look to the vihuela you demonstrated. It is also a pale wood top with decoration around the sound hole.

It reminds me of the way the baroque guitar is tuned, Brandon Acker has a video about it. So maybe the vihuela has the same kind of ancestor as the modern guitar in the baroque guitar as the ukulele has in the renaissance guitar.

The guitarra de golpe has always had its home in the conjunto de arpa, where a classical guitar is never used and in its place is the guitarra de golpe. I love their punchy sound.
