Auf der so genannten Welt-Klimakonferenz im polnischen Kattowitz hat eine fünfzehnjährige Schwedin den dort versammelten Regierungsvertretern, Delegierten und Beobachtern mit einer klaren kurzen Rede die Schau gestohlen, ohne dass dies ihre Absicht gewesen sein mag. Greta Thunberg, die seit geraumer Zeit den Mut hat, jeden Freitag auf den Schulunterricht zu verzichten, weil sie denkt, dass der medienwirksame Protest gegen das Nichtstun der politisch Verantwortlichen angesichts der Klimakatastrophe wichtiger ist, als der freitägliche Schulbesuch, hat in klaren Worten den Verdrängern und Aussitzern, den Verharmlosern und Leugner der Anzeichen, die offensichtlich und nicht länger bestreitbar sind, die Leviten gelesen. Ich erlaube mir als Opa, ihr mit einem Lied meine Bewunderung auszudrücken.

A great, young girl from Sweden talks to the world.
fights for a future that's promise has not yet unfurled.
She doesn‘t fight for herself, for her generation she stands
and what needs to be done, she knows is in our hands.
She knows more than others, who are much older than her
who think they are wiser, think she's not enough learned.

let idiots talk and talk- and listen well to Greta.
She's skippin' school, much disliked by the grown-ups,
she wants to start indignation to climate destruction
that's why she speaks clearly, for all to understand,
that we have to act now, it's gotta come to an end.
Among the great and the mighty she searches for courage in vain,
to tell the truth why nothing is done, nothing is changed.
Why they destroy our environment, it's payed for with grief
ignores all the clear warnings, they just won't believe
Because it is high time - no time to wait till later,
let idiots talk and talk- and listen well to Greta.
She'll not make things easy, for herself or for you-
she denounces the system, wants to hear all that is true.
You run out of excuses for not doing your best -
If time's running out and gets scarce, better if you don't rest.
And take note with Greta, who's ignoring whom -
Make unmistakably clear that if something don't happen soon,
many things will change, whether you like it or not.
People have real power – Greta puts you on the spot.
Because it is high time - no time to wait till later,

When an old man sings... about Greta with elation,
it's out of anger of the ineptness of ev'ry nation.
Who feels ashamed when you tell children in 70 years,
back then, in our youth, our parents, they had no fears.
Children are actually loved by their parents today,
even if what's to be done they always like to delay
Don't ever let the elders steal your future and then …
tell you that you're to small to do anything.
