Saudi Arabia has been hit by massive flash floods. A night of continuos torrential rainfall has flooded street in Mecca. Freighting videos are emerging of cars being swept away and many main roads have been closed since then. Also, there are multiple weather warnings in place.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for a decade and loved it. Despite being a wealthy country, the country lacks any proper drainage system which is the real reason for devastating floods like these.

Daniel, That's nothing compared to the massive flooding that taking place all over the middle-east. Cities in Saudi like Medinah, Tabuk, and Jeddah have rivers running through them. Sad to see the number of dead livestock, however, the flooding has led to the establishment of huge lakes where once nothing but sand. And yes, there are millions of plants and flowers blooming. Many pictures of purple flowers covering acres and acres of once arrid rocky ground.

They build NO storm sewers or drainage systems because it hardly ever rains enough. The waters have nowhere to drain, and it takes forever to soak into the sand.
