I think if you research any of this you will find that Marcus Vitruvius Pollione was describing the construction of the floors for buildings. None of the eroded or damaged Roman roads I have seen were constructed like this. If in doubt do the research! Much of this is pure conjecture!

The Roman road I live not far from and use regularly by bike and car goes between Asse and Edingen in Flanders -Belgium and is part of the vaste network of roman roads in Gallia / nowadays Belgium and France. It is now a modern asphalt road but stil the original trace.

This video is a complete fake, Roman road finish in gravel and stone plates paving just limited to cities and nearby cemeteries as an extension of a city streets outside the cities then the road shift to a gravel road and maintain this way between cities. In the other hand the construction is not managed by the army during conquer.
