The Classic Hot rod - 1929 Ford Model A

Ford Motor Company was established in 1903 and single-handedly revolutionized automobile production with the introduction of the assembly line in 1914. Since then Ford has become one of the biggest names in all of the car world. Ford's first car was the Model T, with over 15 million units sold. Fords second car was the Model A, and was a huge leap forward for the company and a major improvement over the crude design of the Model T. Henry Ford's son, Edsel, had a huge roll in the design of the Model A, and took some of the design elements from Lincoln, which Ford had purchased in 1922. The model A was only produced for 4 years, however it was a massive success with over 5 million units sold in varying models ranging from luxurious to farm trucks. The Model A was a pivotal car for Ford and helped the company become one of the largest and most successful company in the world.

Some people currently bemoan the loss of stick shifts in cars. Oddly I never met anyone who objected to losing manual chokes, manual fuel pressure pumps, ignition advance levers, magneto switches, valve lifters or starting handles.

I would have liked to see more of the car! I did learn a lot though. I’ve owned 3 Riley Motor cars of 1931, 1932 & 1934 (& 7 Ferrari’s) but never a Model A, something I’ve thought of quite a lot. I collect 1/43 scale models & have 20+ Model A models! Thanks for the inspiration!
