When Kylo goes on the "she's nothing" speech, it's him projecting his feelings about wishing he had nothing to do with the Skywalker legacy.
He feels everyone in his life treated him as a pawn for his Skywalker blood, with Rey being the first person since Tai to not do so.
He's unable to put himself in Rey's shoes and can't comprehend why what he wished for himself could be the worst thing Rey could hear about herself.

Also they have the same frustrations with their teachers. Both Snoke and Luke are judgmental and snippy with them, not showing any confidence in them.

If there just wasn't this stupidly disconnected story and a few scenes showing Rey believably struggling with these powers she discovers in herself, the sequels could have been pretty nice.
Except for episode 9. It has three nice shots, the rest is bullshit.
