02 06 AI and Green Break Out Session
Показать описание
Artificial intelligence can significantly contribute to the European Green Deal objectives, helping industry, companies, public authorities and citizens make more sustainable choices to integrate renewables in the energy system through smarter grid management, or to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through smart mobility, an optimised use of resources, precision farming, to name a few. The Coordinated Plan on AI 2021 Review adopted in April 2021 puts forward joint actions for the Member States and the Commission in building strategic leadership in high-impact sectors - including climate change and the environment. The Plan highlighted importance of sharing results of national efforts of AI and climate actions and strengthening dialogue with industry and associations on the topic.
The aim of the session is to drive discussion on AI and Green as a key European AI policy element, and catalyse exchange between stakeholders considering the on the different components of using AI for Green Deal targets as well as AI technologies’ environmental footprint. The panel discussion will explore concrete AI solutions and cases, including questions related to the national implementation of the environment actions of the Coordinated plan, the constitution of a European/global data infrastructure and complementary technologies of AI for a green transition, the complementary role of regulation and technology as well as the potential global solutions to a global problem. How can AI help our transition to a circular economy, efficient energy use, decarbonisation of manufacturing, or enable completely new solutions that were not possible with traditional technologies? How do we mitigate the environmental impact of AI in and by itself? And crucially what can the EU do?

▬ About Digital EU ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect) develops and implements policies to make Europe fit for the digital age.
We invest in research, innovation, deployment and uptake of trustworthy and green digital technologies that improve our economy and people’s lives.
Through funding, legislation and policy initiatives, we help ensure European leadership and independence in critical digital technologies(such as Artificial Intelligence, Common Data Spaces, high-performance computing, 5G, micro-electronics, blockchain and quantum).
We work towards making Europe a global leader in the data economy and in cybersecurity. We foster the internal market where all companies can invest and compete on equal terms, develop, market and use digital technologies, products and services and where the rights of creators and consumers are respected. We work on the deployment of very high-speed networks to all companies and households, as connectivity is key for digital transformation. We promote the EU’s human-centric model of an innovative, fair and sustainable digital transformation of society, which respects our democratic values, our fundamental rights and cultural diversity.
