This guy feels like a more energetic version of Bringus Studios in the best way possible. I'm subbing.

it was wild how un-user friendly linux was before ubuntu.

Most of the older Linux distributions will only detect IDE drives and will require additional drivers to be able to detect SATA drives. That's probably why they don't detect your HDD. I think Windows also had this, up to XP. The unmodified install disks for XP would not detect SATA drives by default, you needed to load a driver during the installation in order to be able to use them. Although some unofficial distributions would include these by default. Maybe SP3 did include them as well, I don't remember. That's also what the Mandriva disk was asking you to load, although by 2007 standards it should have been able to detect it automatically. Also, MP3 is an (open) proprietary format, so some distributions at the time required third party codecs to be able to play MP3 files due to license issues.

The nostalgia of some of those older Ubuntu Distros was an awesome throwback to me. freaking out school teachers by running Linux off a Live USB to bypass all of the things the school had blocked. oh and using it to crack the password to the default windows admin account password that was shared between ALL of the PC's in the school to install what the hell I liked on the PC's.

The best thing about old Slackware cds is that slack has like 30 packages in it's repos total and it comes pre installed with all of them

I went back to the past with this video. I remember a few of these from when they were new. Thanks for this nostalgia trip.

My guy was at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek Ohio! The original 151 pokemon store you went to, has some cool stuff but definitely over priced. And that circular japanese rhythm game in that round one is wild, my homie goes wild on that

Yep 11.04 was the first version of Ubuntu to ship GNOME 3.

With Ubuntu, because it's updated annually you can tell the year it was released in by the version number.
Also Kubuntu and Xubuntu are just different desktop environments, kubuntu being KDE plasma and Xubuntu being XFCE and yes both are still around today.

I find it funny you booted up SUSE then you ask what is a YAST....

YaST (Yet Another Setup Tool) is a Linux operating system configuration and setup tool . It was originally written by SuSE and released in May 1996, YaST is featured in the openSUSE Linux
