Rest in Peace Ric Ocasek.

As a massive fan of The Cars, the loss of Ben Orr was enough. And Ben Orr was the best thing that ever happened to Ric Ocasek. With Ben he had a perfect frontman to deliver his songs, and more notably, a person more willing to have their writer sing them than himself.

The Cars are an important band to me. Not only as a fan, but as a musician. There was nothing but excellent musicians in The Cars. Each and every one of them. What sounds like clicky, simple, direct songs, have multitudes of treasures to find within them on a musical level.

In other words, you will learn a great degree about composition, arrangement, and how to contruct a song where every instrument has a distinctive voice, individual and complete unto themselves, but when you put them all together they become ... a memorable song.

I've never known truly what lyrically Ric Ocasek invested in his work. Was it autobiographical? Was it social commentary? Was it Art? Or was he just jamming words together that sounded good, whether they made sense or not.

I think one of his most powerful and evocative combination of words were found in "This Could Be Love"

"Till I met you
In the dark
I was chasing
Little sparks ..."

Those little lines speak volumes to me. It is so visual yet completely simplistic. It evokes such a strong visual in my head. Those little lines can be interpreted a thousand different ways. And that is true Art.

Dear Ric Ocasek. I just wanted to remaster your songs. Because they meant a lot to me growing up. You wrote one of my favourite songs in the Universe. Songs that have made me happy I'm alive to hear them and let them into my world and grow. "It's All I Can Do" is one of my favourite songs in the Universe. The song is perfection, and you let Ben Orr sing it, making it even better.

Rest in Peace. And Thank You so very very much for all you created. <3

Such perfection. I really discovered this whole album in 1981 when I was driving my first car at age 17, listening to the tape with Kraco speakers and power blaster

The Cars were my first wife's favorite band, and she thought Ben Orr was the sexiest man to ever exist. I've since become a bit of a fan myself. You are absolutely correct about the music. It's like 'The Wizard of Oz, ' musically. Every time you listen, you hear something you hadn't heard before. The first two albums, back to back, are among the best ever to be produced.

One of the things I noticed about The Cars music was it seemed to achieve some melodic, rhythmic, harmonic, sonic, textural level of perfection. The funny thing I found out later was that when they started playing as a band they were every bit aware and amazed by this. It was just sort of...there. Aside from the obvious talent of all members, just recently I've become more aware of what Orr is doing to each song. He's doing something in all of them that just makes it lock and swing. All done with what appears to be absolute simplicity but intuitively creating a great pulse with a dynamic swinging arc. There's an earthy swagger to it. Earthy swagger. Ha ha. Gotta remember that one.

The members combined are like another Angelic Entity altogether. It was hard, hard work for sure but also DESTINY.

Fantastic album.
This album is of now lesser quality than their debut album from 1978, which was also fantastic.
