Hereditary angioedema (HAE) causes increases bradykinin causing angioedema, dry cough, abdominal pain, ...etc.

Bradykinin is produced from high molecular weight kininogen (HMWK) via plasma kallikrein.
High molecular weight kininogen is a plasma protein (alpha globulin) responsible for activating the intrinsic coagulation pathway as well as producing the inflammatory mediator known as bradykinin (via plasma kallikrein).

Plasma kallikrein, in addition to high molecular weight kininogen (HMWK), is responsible for activating factor XII into XIIa.

Kallikrein-Kinin system consists of a kallikrein (plasma kallikrein or tissure kallikrein) producing a kinin (bradykinin in the plasma and kallidin in the tissue).

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) degrades bradykinin into inactive metabolites.

Thank you for sharing this! Im going through the ups and downs of getting diagnosed with something as rare as this. This helped me understand a bit more than reading up on it.

Really came here for a single piece of information but ended up watching the whole video. You have a very interesting and unique way of presenting subjects, I had to subscribe.

Why is hereditary angioedema painless if bradykinin is high

Are there any adaptations that occur with continued exposure to high levels of Bradykinin and HAE attacks? Does the body learn or adapt to exposures to Bradykinin to reduce the frequency or severity of attacks?

I’ve been tested for this 2 years ago after having swollen tongue and lips 2 weeks later and nothing came back that this is hereditary for me so I must be the first? Idk this is confusing but I’ve had 4-5 episodes of swelling. First time was 2 years ago when my tongue swelled and a week later my lips swelled. Didn’t happen again until this month when my hand was swollen, then random large hives all over my body, then my lips again.
