Its kind of insane how far Battlefield has fallen from grace. Back in the BC2 and BF3 days Battlefield was seen as clearly superior in a lot of facets of the game compared to other popular shooters. Entirely destructible structures. Great expansion packs. Superb map design. Vehicle combat etc.

Now 2042 just feels like one of those shooters that was released a while back. It doesn't feel like it will leave any legacy like the older games.

I remember the first gameplay dropping for BF3 and people just realizing, "Wow, this is something special. This doesn't come around often." A big budget AAA shooter but crafted with so much care and love. And you can see that in BF3 staying power. Even as newer titles released, people kept coming back to it. I time BF4 also made a name for itself even though it had an appalling launch.

I think that's what the newer games were missing. They looked flashy and cool but they missed that true care and dedication that you could just see in all the right ways in games like BF3. Battlefield just used to do its own thing and it worked! It worked so well.

Do you guys remember Rush? Remember how well that worked with Battlefields map design and how exhilarating it was to play those matches? That's really all we need from a Battlefield game. Great maps, destruction, vehicles and rush.

They just need to keep it simple. Maps with 5 points and 64 players. Destruction and some vehicles. Solid gunplay with variety. No need to reinvent the wheel. And no battle royale mode!

I have no hope in this franchise, not after how they mishandled BFV and the 2042 as a whole. Seems like everyone who worked at DICE during peak Battlefield games have all moved on. BF1 will go down as the last good Battlefield.

My expectations for ANY Battlefield are so low at this point that I'd argue it's more likely to be struck by lightning, twice, before they'll deliver a good game again.
