Hubris

In this video, I reflect on a profound leadership lesson I learned from my co-author and longtime friend, John "Coach" Havlik, a former Navy SEAL Captain. Together, we wrote The Leadership Killer: Reclaiming Humility in an Age of Arrogance, a book that explores the dangers of arrogance in leadership and the importance of staying humble.

John often joins me in leadership workshops to share his experiences, and one of the key takeaways he emphasizes is that no matter how senior you become, you're never too high to be wrong, and the junior folks are never too low to be right. As leaders, it’s vital to stay connected to the ground-level work and listen to those closest to the customer. Ignoring their insights can lead to arrogance and hubris, ultimately harming the organization.

In this video, I’ll discuss the importance of humility, walking the deck plates, and embracing the wisdom that comes from all levels of the organization.
