When I babysat, I made sure the house was clean when the parents got home. The kids helped with the pick up (we went wild, so there was always a mess, but they were always happy to help) and I did things like dishes, spot mop, vacuuming, and would start any laundry in the laundry room. Back then, word of mouth was the best advertising… and believe me, I was very, very well paid and always booked.

I am a nanny. Teaching the kids to clean and me setting the example of cleaning is very important. Some people do just hire a young babysitter to save money. I would ask my sister to not allow the kids to play with the next thing until they’ve cleaned up the previous thing they were playing with. It’s ok to set standards for your sitter to implement in the home for you. It would be a huge help.

Oh my goodness. I was a nanny for twin toddlers, and we were cleaning every step of the way. I never ever left messes like this, even between juggling the two little ones. Wow.

For anybody who doesn’t know…. Plain white vinegar is an amazing natural cleaner and is great in the laundry for anti bacterial cleaner and fabric softener. Plus, it’s super cheap.
