we were hit with an ice storm last night. power is out all over. we are headed into town in the hopes of finding gas fuel. Lots of downed power lines. Gaylord Michigan is out of power due to a huge storm that froze everything. We hope Anna finds Elsa soon so we can go back to buying ice from Christophe and Sven.

I'm in Bliss twp, between Levering and Cross Village. After driving round and seeing the damage, I'll be shocked if I have power in less than 3 weeks. It's hurricane-level damage to the power system. Truly incredible. I got stuck on the north side of the Mac on Tuesday. When I crossed early morning going north (to find gasoline) I was astonished by the amount of ice. The vertical cables, which are about 1 inch thick steel, were encased in ice so thick you couldn't fit two hands around them - like a two-liter bottle or bigger. It sucked being stranded for falling ice, but if a chunk that big came down it wouldn't just crack your windshield, it would blast through, maybe ending your life. They did the right thing to close it. This is truly an epic level storm. My thanks for the dedicated lineman that are working their butts off to restore power. THANK YOU!

When people wonder why it takes so long to get their power back on they need to watch videos like yours. Thanks for the reality jolt.

Love it up there. Even with that weather I would rather be there than here in Detroit.

I came up with SK Tree Service out of Lansing a few days ago just to cruise around and clear out some folks driveways with our big loader. Free relief work! Y'all stay warm up there!

From across the fresh water pond, sorry to see your damage. Love Michigan, we'll be cruising through your town to the dunes, but not till June! Best to all in Gaylord.

When I moved back to my home State I made sure to get a generator installed that runs on natural gas. I've weathered too many long blackouts to ever live without backup power if I can help it. Wish you and yours the best as well as everyone else having to endure. Much love from this Michigander.

As soon as I heard the tornado sirens I texted my neighbor and told him to get the generator ready. Within 5 minutes we were out of power as the straight line wind was around 80mph. Trees laying all over and lines underneath. I keep my generator full with REC gas as well as a 5 gallon can. Good luck getting through this.

Gaylord here. I've lived in the UP and
Northern Michigan
Since 1964. We got
1.5 inches of ice in
Elmira Township.
Drove all the way to
Kalkaska to fill my
Car and gas cans.
Looks like a war zone.

Lived in North Dakota all of 63 years.
The ice storms come around on occasion.
Always have gas on hand.
One year in april of 1983, the power was out for over 2 weeks.
My parents had a fireplace in their house.
My dad went out with the tractor and took a heater fan motor out of an old car.
He had some stove pipe and made it go into the back of the fire and come out on the other side.
Hooked up the 12 volt fan motor to a 12 volt battery.
He left the tractor running and kept one of the 2 batteries charged.

Thanks for sharing.
I know that stretch of M32 east to Gaylord well.
Just shocking, ice then 80 mph wind.

Ice storms are just as devastating as tornados and hurricanes 😢

Best suggestion, get a duel fuel generator, propane never expires and never goes bad. Hank hill has one

This brings back such vivid and memorable memories of the ice storm we had in Tennessee back in 1974 and it was well over 2 weeks before the power was completely restored and that was within a 20 mile radius. Looked identical to these images.

Ice is the worse weather to get out in, roads are too dangerous. It is better to always be prepared before any storm. We had bad ice storm this winter in Missouri but I was prepared and we did not get out for two weeks. When you are not prepared, you can become part of the problem that causes members of rescue services to have to get out in that and risks their lives also. Please everyone, make a list, and make sure you are prepared with all necessary supplies before each storm gets to your area, each and every time and be prepared to stay at home for at least two weeks, just in case. Better safe than sorry.

In Mio we had to travel to either Lewiston or down to Rose City or West Branch for gas. Mio still out of power but Fairview just got power last night. Gas stations that do have power are running out of gas quickly. It is a disaster area but we need to stay patient and wait for the hard working crews to sort this mess out. Thanks for the video 😊

Traveling pretty fast and lots of traffic for the bad weather! Things look so bad! So sorry you have to go through this! But like all good Michiganders you will tough it out! It really is unbelievable!
