Someone needed ID for work and took good care of their bills/finances. They could have trashed but didn't.

The companies that track credits are notoriously terrible at keeping records. What probably happen someone has your exact name and they ignored the social and just merged your records. I wish these companies would be held more accountable for their incompetence. It worked out for Scarra but for other people, it can cost real money in the form of whether they can get a loan or reasonable interest rates.

I used to work in banking and YEARS ago one of my clients had this happen with a credit card. She left it alone because they were making the payments on time and her credit was going up 😂

Illegal immigrants will usually take someone ss or something but usually would make sure everything is done on time so they aren't caught committing fraud and such

My in laws were illegal for years. During that time, my FIL used a persons identity to get work, credit cards and even a house. He always paid the bills on time and made sure the credit was in great shape. He was pretty bummed when he had to start over when becoming legal, including losing out on all of that social security he paid into that he'll never get. I guess some illegals understand that you have to have good credit to do much.

This is easy:

I am Mexican. I knew a guy that sold identities. His recommendation to every client is to treat the identity well and it will provide a long term identity.

For good ppl, this could lead them to home ownership and prosperity. One day when they are in a good position they decide to stop using the identity.

Dirt bags will ruin the credit then get reported and have to buy another identity and they are not cheap. Social security cards are $90, verifiable IDs are $500, birth certificates $1500. You spend that kind of money you learn to treat the identity well and its owner either won't know or will enjoy the good credit.

My step dad had his identity stolen by someone in Minnesota. That dude made a life under my step dads name. Paid off cars, bought a house and never missed payments. My step dad has perfect credit. He’s experienced some hiccups trying to get credit, but the other dude has been solid. Good for him.

Had a friend actually end up with a condo in Florida because of stolen identity. They had paid on time til he got deported. Randomly the guy was looking to buy his first home when the loan officer was like you're not a first time buyer. Had to hire an attorney found DMV, SSN, IRS records. Guy was legitimately trying to live the American dream just with a stolen identity.

That's why you always pay attention to your expenses and report anything suspicious right away. There should be nothing that leaves you wondering what that was for.

Someone once did that to me, too, back when my old credit card was open when I was 21. The problem was it WAS actually identity theft as they were making charges on in that I wasn’t paying nor they. Had to report it to both the bank and the FTC and shut it down. 💯💯💯

Not uncommon for people to sell your information to someone who is illegal. They don’t want to be hassled so they try to be as responsible as they can.
