Been watching vids on all sorts of stuff past few week, never laid a brick in my life (not building bricks anyways) and I decided I wanted to build a workshop in the garden, was gunna go for wood but priced it up to look nice and just the frame and outer were gunna be over £500. So thought, I'll just hire a van and collect all the free stuff on gumtree. It's cost a little more, about £600-700, but I've got the side of a house somebody took down after an extension (bricks, blocks, rsj's, Windows and doors) more bricks and blocks from a few other places, enough tiles to do the roof and probably more, about 500 block pavers to do the path (most of them free, one set cost £10), bought some timber for £75 for the roof, 1 ton of ballast and cement from local merchants for £74 and some tools. Had a van for 8 days and did almost 1000 miles, got last few blocks yesterday and finally started digging last night, moved about 20 40 litre buckets and that's only a dent on what needs to be done. Doing it all on the cheap by doing it all by hand buut I reckon it should be a fun learning curve, hoping to time lapse all of it (or as much as possible) and bang it on here to show how it turns out. I'll either learn something new or regret it but won't know for a few week. Probably a bit ambitious for never having done any brickwork in my life but as they YOLO!!
