It's incredible how much easier sight reading becomes when you know what chords to expect!

I was never sufficiently interested in music to choose a musical education, but I've always been interested enough to want to understand it. Simply reading the theory on my own just gives me a headache, but when I have someone to explain it to me like in this video, the pieces fall into place as easy as pie.

These lessons are very effective and helpful for those, like me, who have ever encountered difficulties in realizing figure basses. Thank you so much.

Guess the next step is chart a piece in Figured bass. Short hand in it seems interesting… digging the examples. !!!

Thank you very much for these excellent lectures. Do you by any chance have the solution to your second exercise in lesson 9. Thanks.

Thank you so much. I love your own tips, eg LEARN the major triads to save time later. It's so useful to learn from your experience as well as your knowledge. I wonder what level this theory is where you teach? I am studying in UK for ABRSM grade 6 theory. This is usually taken by students 11-16 yrs old, although I am 64!

Good day Dr. B. I was analysing the last example in this video. In this regard, I would like to seek a clarification - In the third measure, is the note on the second beat the soprano (an F natural) a non-chord tone ? I'm assuming so because since F is supposed to be the leading tone it has to be raised and since it isn't raised, is it a non-chord tone which resolves in the next beat as an 'accented anticipation', since F natural becomes the seventh of the i7 chord in the next beat ? Could you offer an explanation for what it actually is ? Thanks a ton.

Dr. Brellochs,
I have a question, that does not adress the point made in this video, but as I'm moving forward I feel like you could help.
What's the relationship of a note and the rest of the scale of which it's the tonic ?
I understand that the tonic and the dominant have a strong physical relation (it's part of the tonic overtones and so...). But what's the deal with all intermediaries notes ? Why these ones and not others ?
Hope you have a glimpse of answer for me
Respectfully,

4:47 - He must have meant the first inversion of 7th (not triad)

Dr. Brellochs,

What is the figured bass of that fourth triad? It reads as G D Bflat, so the root is G and the sonority is minor since its a G Bflat D triad. However, it's not a valid inversion, at least to my eyes. Thanks!

Gonna go analyze some simple Melodies. Fingers crossed!

By the way… do you respond to comments if they are questions.. either way, big mahalo from a big fan!
Aloha

Ps- I’d love to pick your brain about Frank Zappa. Sax lines!!!

Should that A7, be A7/C? It's a 6/5 chord

Shouldn't the last chord you analyzed be a 6 but also have a # symbol below it because the F sharp isn't in the key signature?

Slip of the tongue 6/5 first inversion of a 7th chord is correct.

I wrote them all out and I'm wondering if there is a way to check my work? Does Mr. B go over the answers for this somewhere? Thanks
