How Death Can Set You Free...

'Memento mori' means, in Latin, 'remember you must die'. Under this sonorous title, from the Middle Ages onwards, philosophers and artists produced solemn invitations to reflect on mortality. This is our addition to the genre.

“This is our big mistake: to think we look forward to death. Most of death is already gone. Whatever time has passed is owned by death.”

The whole LEGO setup is nothing short of amazing. Props to the team involved in making something so meaningful and thought-provoking out of something most would only see as a child's toy.

Wonderful really. Thanks so much to everybody who work on this channel. It had been the best thing I have discovered in 2014. It touches me deeply to think that, through the work of all these people I don't know, I hopefully will become a much better person than I would, if I hadn't discovered this channel. We owe so much to strangers indeed...There is something very beautiful in this thought, something about brotherhood. That's why, in order to pay back, we should share all this wisdom  with our beloved ones and  with others we will meet along our way.
The message of this video is simple, we all know it indeed,   but it is so important. It is not enough that we just get the message and be touched by it for a while. We must indeed permanently keep it in mind and find ways to remind ourselves of it. Since we spend most of those five hundred thousand hours being distracted from all that what really matters...
Just to mention a couple of " reminders" I would recommend  everybody the movie "Ikiru" by Akira Kurosawa, the book " Staring at the sun" by Irvin Yalom and also that really terrifying but life changing  book by Tolstoy called "The Death of Ivan Ilyich".
Happy Christmas to everybody!

the thought of an end always gives me great anxiety ..simply because there is so much i haven't felt or done and I don't think I will be given the chance to do it anytime soon..you know simple but vital things such as to make my dream come true, to be fleetingly in love..to feel joy as long as I can until the darkness comes..and the terrible thing (for me) is that I see all my friends doing what they want and having the things I long for..but I simply watch from afar, stuck in my own misery, wishing for the sadness to end and to create another life for me..

The soundtrack really adds a lot to this video! People should take the time to thank those who put these things together - lots of effort, I'm sure! :)

Lovely video! I just finished reading a couple of short stories by Kurt Vonnegut. Both, 2BR02B and The Big Trip Up Yonder, are dystopian stories where ageing has been "cured" and people can live for ever. A line from 2BR02B was especially poignant and this video reminded me of it:
"The painter pondered the mournful puzzle of life demanding to be born and, once born demanding to be fruitful... to multiply and live as long as possible - to do all that on a very small planet that would have to last forever"

I remember when I was young and I heard that legos were for kids and I'd need to put them away soon...this isn't the only lego video I've seen on YouTube, but it's the one that most helped me put aside the small lingering feeling of being ripped off or lied to.

I'm still slightly jealous of the legos kids these days get to play with, though :)

I don't like to think that life is precious because it ends. I like to think it's precious because it happened at all. So much could have gone wrong somewhere in history for you to not have existed, so the very fact that everything came together just right for you to exist should be reason enough to appreciate life. Death, to me, feels cruelly unnecessary.

I try to watch this (as well as other videos on here) every so often as little reminders... I simply wanted to say thanks to all of the team for your work, :)

There are so many people praising the uploader for the excellent work (and they should because this is an excelllent video) and Dylan Moran's words come to mind when he said: Don't thank me. Bake me a cake..

This is a great channel. Love the work that went into it and the message behind it. Gave me a moment to reflect on my life before returning to "greatest fail compilation" and cute animal videos.

"This is our addition to the genre." Your video really gave me a good laugh and brightened up my day--almost as much as reading Schopenhauer. (And you do take your own advice about using all the senses.)

This is by far my favourite channel! I learn so much with each video! I hope you reach success! Enough to keep you making videos but too much that you forget your roots hahaha all the best! And thank you so much

I like the playful Lego. It is a welcome distraction from my remembering my imminent death reality.

also gotta add, that font choice and particular shade of crimson for the video title matches the subject perfectly - a warm darkness.
