DJ is spammable at low level, just keep throwing the heavy fireball and DP if they jump. Even if they progress a little and start playing neutral, DJ's buttons are so good. DJ is harder to use than most characters, but is easy at low level and has good chance of winning at high level.

This is my first Street Fighter, I'm plat rank and I have found the hardest character to learn was definitely Chun-li. The stance cancels and charge moves had such a learning curve compared to any other character.

The hardest part of Ryu is that he has back and forward heavy punch that you're gonna get when you just want stand.

Gotta have that dj downplay lmfao gief might be good in rookie, the minute people learn how to jump at all spamming SPD will get you killed. When you are new to sf, especially in this game, Gief is getting massacred by his slow ass moves and inconsistent anti airs. Any of the upper tier characters will run all over gief with just jab and neutral jump at a low level.

Zangief has a multitude of pointless moves. And has some really bad stats. DJ does not. Therefore Zangied if is harder.

I expected to hear Chun Li before DJ as far as charge characters go. I also kind of expected to hear Rashid at least mentioned (I guess I personally find him quite a bit more challenging than Ryu, but I'm also not super aware of how good either character is at a high level).

Kizzy is lowkey bad in this video. Like for beginners, I would expect for you guys to agree on characters that actually have unique motions like a lily & giefs, seeing that people under Plat one don’t even understand how to do a 360 motion without jumping. Deejay can just press buttons and drive impact at low level. Diaphone on point again.

Zangiefs moves are waaaay more punishable and its very obvious which ones are sooo even at a low level i think Zangief has it rough

Choosing DeeJaycis an absolute joke lol. Gief is 1000% harder to use than DeeJay

I expected to see Chun somewhere on this list. She doesn't have the craziest normals or drive rush, she can't easily cross-cut DP, needs to use multiple anti-airs/air-to-airs/air throws, relies on doing oki, is a mixed motion-charge character, has a stance that can be cancelled into even from uncancellable normals, and juggle limits play a big part in how her combo routes work. She has cheap stuff but it's kinda toned down compared to the real cheap stuff in the game, and I definitely think she's hard for lower level players to pick up. Like below Diamond I rarely saw anyone playing her in a way that could be considered correct. Like, she's very strong and her neutral, oki and fireball are amazing, I'm definitely a Chun up-player, I just think she's harder to unlock than the average character while also having a pretty high floor for new players.

I can definitely agree that A.K.I. and Sim are two of the hardest to truly nail down as their kits are very unique, and require a deep understanding of the game mechanics, and fundamentals to truly see long term results. They're very investment heavy whereas other characters don't require as much. Also my hot take:

I think Lily is also one of the harder characters to master long term, since she's very poke-footsie oriented, and while her gameplan is more straightforward than others, the fact that you have to be very precise with your spacing and utilize your tools effectively without mindlessly jumping in all of the time, makes her a hard character to master at a high level.

Deejay doesn't need to spam charge moves, because he can spam his busted normals, motion specials, that freaking KoF hop, the character is absurdly overwhelming. If you say the character has too many tools, and thus is hard, the same could be said about JP and Chun

As a loyal fan of Gief, I want to keep him out of the bottom 5...but as a loyal fan of Gief, I gotta call it as I see it, he's hard as hell to play outside of the dumpster tier matchmaking. Doable, for sure, and you can have a great time with it, but difficult. That said, in the time it would take the average player to build skills to get him mid-top tier, I feel they could probably get Dee Jay and like 2 other fighters to the same level of mastery. I'm still a loyal fan though, and most importantly, don't let any list keep you from playing who you enjoy.

I would say dj is a bit counterintuitive but he has easy combos and spammable normals as well as a few reliable anti airs. Low level dj is cake.

Intermediate, you can do so much damage without using anything more than an empty drive cancel.

High level the only reason we dont see more of him is because people don't know how strong his fakeout game actually is.

as a zangief player i must agree with diaphone, his grabs are powerful yes but he has to work 10 times as hard as every other character to get in and has trouble staying in. alot of his buttons are susceptible to universal system mechanics like DI or DR, and he is bar non the easiest character to wiff punish in the game. Another his combos are very hard both in execution and in confirmation regardless of how functionally simple they are. lastly as described in the user guide gief works best when making accurate predictions on the opponent and possible is rewarded the most for making such predictions but that is an incredibly hard aspect to win at consistently, especially when Gief is punished so heavily on a wrong read.

Honorable mention: Chun Li. I climbed from S5-D1 with her and it was NOT easy in the slightest. When you're a newb, you learn that going in with dashes are so good that you forget about Chun's godlike walk speed. Her combo routes with serenity stance are strange. 5MK is stubby and Tensho Kicks require timing to anti-air with. As a new player you're just gonna light kikouken and hope for the best. Plus she's a charge character, so holding charge is tough to manage especially after you learn that you have to walk people down and you can't just drive rush in like Dee Jay or hold back like Guile. Going into mid level of play is hard AF because you have to use ALL of her normals to be successful and learn that her air to air game is whack and she's floaty AF. She's got good normals, but they're not Cammy's privileged normals for sure.
