Hayden 92, Ponting 75, Hussey 103, Clarke 135, then you watch Gilchrist stroll to the crease at number 7 with a 50 avg. Brutality.

This Australian team was soul-crushing to play against, how can the guy coming in at 7th have an average of 48!?

A fact - Adam Gilchrist was never dropped/rested during his international test career, since the time he made his debut till his last game, he never missed a test match (he played 96 consecutive test matches)

From 29 off 23 balls to
100 off 57 balls.
Respect.

He literally scored 17 test centuries in 7 years. For a guy coming at no 7 those are some insane stats. For major part of his career he averaged in 50s. He can walk into any team as a batsman alone. The best ever & certainly a trend setter.

Watched this live and was literally laughing at the TV with my dad who's now passed. I can see him, beer in hand, enjoying every second.
Good times. Love ya, dad.

Australia 99-06 is the most under appreciated sports side ever. I remember even Australians complaining there wasn’t any real competition. I even remember an actual international competition finished with Australia vs Australia A. God I loved it.

Imagine getting langer, hayden, ponting, clarke, waugh out. You're feeling proud of your team and then this guy comes out. Man that australian team was just cruel.

How can you not love him? Loved by many. Feared by most. Respected by all.

As an Englishman this test series was torture to watch, but also a privilege. The best dang test side the world has ever seen.

For me he is the greatest wicket keeper batsman in history. He revolutionised the role of a wicket-keeper. He is the reason why we have so many keepers who have a great record as batsman too.

"First call was catch it, they then quickly added to that, the bloke in the 23rd row" that's probably the best commentary I've heard in any sport period.

Imagine being trailing by 500+ runs and this guy is thrashing you to all parts of the ground.

Gilchrist always hit the biggest sixes. Amazing player, and a gentleman to boot. I bumped into him in a shopping mall when he was in South Africa for the 2003 World Cup, and he was so friendly and humble.

I live in Perth and went to the game. Incredible innings between 4.30pm and 6pm! In front of his home crowd too! He was on pace to beat Viv's 56 ball masterpiece but in the previous over Hoggard decided to ball a few yorkers 1 metre outside off stump that he could not reach let alone hit - and the record was missed.
