Fun fact: if there is no date code, it's pre year 2000.

People please change your tires. Yes it is expensive but safety above everything else.

I have a 2004 R1150Rockster. 20k miles. Tire were original, black, round, had tread, held air. Never thought about them. Watched a Jay Leno thing this spring where he was lamenting the tires on one of his cars were 6 years old and due for replacement. Had an epiphany, replaced my 20 year old tires, Jay probably saved my ass as handling felt odd which I put down to my riding skills. Thank you Jay!

I bought a 1996 DR350SE with only 10k miles on it. I think the mileage was genuine as the tyres were 16 years old. They got changed changed out fast.

You'd be surprised how well old tires hold if the bike was garage kept. While age does matter, Sun exposure is what really breaks down rubber.
I've ground my pegs on the road with 15 year old tires. But those tires were garage kept and top quality.

My 1981 KZ750-4 still has its original white wall rear tire. Surprisingly it isn't cracked and is still rubbery. But I am replacing it soon

Thought this was Ludwig from videogames and I was really confused for a moment there

I’m running the original 0904 tires on my low mileage 2004 Harley Dyna… sketchy as hell at times, especially when cold or wet. Burned through this rear tire pretty quick, and new wheels/tire are going on this week. Can’t wait for some good sticky tires on this thing. On my sport bike(s), I’ve never kept tires on more than 2 years… my life is worth more than a set of new tires.

I change the tires to prevent my personal 'contact with the ground'.

Those tires look immaculate, no signs of dry rot at all. I'm generally a wear bar is a suggestion kind of guy but even so all tire manufactures recommend replacement far after 5-6. I've bought many bikes with near new ties and rear brakes that are metal on metal. so wired people seem way more willing to go above and beyond on expensive maintenance and skip the far more important cheap ones.

Mine were from early 2017 so just over 7 years old changes two days ago! =D

My 1982 Yamaha 185 has original tires with good tread.

Bought a 1971 CB750-4 and found an old continental on the front and a newer pirelli mounted backwards on the rear. I loved that bike.

Replacing tyres isn’t a personal choice, if they are old they are dangerous.

"Now you might feel differently, and on your bike, that is your choice to make". Wow, if only more people had this attitude we could live war free.

"Looses"? Does that mean old tires will have loose grip? 😉

No word of a lie but a friend of mine left Montreal on his way out West on a 1988 BMW K75S with a 14 year old front and 10 year old rear tire. The front was really in bad shape but procrastination got in the way and he left. Finally changed out the tire in Calgary. Cracked tread and all! He joked a roll of duct tape was in the works to patch it up :p

I ride bikes year-round, and bought my Russian Sputnik sidecar still in its crate 3 years ago; still using the tire that was installed on the bike. They made the Sputniks from the mid-70s to early 90s, and the tire date is stamped 1986.
