Can You Make A lot of Money In Welding?

You can absolutely make a lot of money in welding but this video is focused on the cost of that money.

I feel there is not a lot of conversation around what the cost is to make a lot of money in welding for those that are just getting into the career.

They are promised 6 figure incomes and all the great things about welding but they don’t talk about the practical things that come along with that lofty of a promise.

I talk about a small portion of the practicality in this video. There is so much more to it.

I’m a welder of about a decade, have had 5 jobs in shipyard, maintenance and fab shop. Have never really liked any of the jobs I’ve had, just feel like I need to be working for myself. I’m working now to start a handyman/mobile welding business.

My bro did welding since 16 yo here in France, it is a very very taxing job few years later he was miserable and the money is hyped. His only way out was supporting his gf getting a phd and a tenure professor job. Now he is enjoying being a stay at home dad and a part time job/business from his atelier at home. He us making more money with his part time business than his previous welding job.

It’s lonely at the top these new videos are spot on welding is great for some but a lot of people end up with great welding careers but failed marriages and broken homes because of the hidden costs

Exactly right chased it weekends overtime traveling did it all. Put my time in now working more close to home would trade the family time over all of it. With that said definitely a young single man’s game do before all the grown up stuff comes and hopefully get enough saved and paid for you can take a cut and enjoy the important things.

Amen! I am a welder myself, and some weld tests are a make-or-break. You bust in the booth, and you're out of a job. There is much more to welding than the money. People see the success but never see the struggle. Whether welding for an employer or welding as your own boss, always put your best work in every time. Great video, boss man!

I'm in the medical field and a lot of the wisdom in this video rings true for health professionals who are considering working for a hospital, travel locums, vs setting up a private practice.

Once I got out of my trade school I was taught you are only as good as your last weld. Tested multiple weld positions before the job, then sacked if you fail a weld on site. This can weed out the people who can't perform under high pressure.

Question, Should you be a welder if you're not willing to travel?

I was a butcher for 26 years and have had a few odd jobs since then. My grandfather was a welder, when I was 10 i even did a little with him showing me, and I have recently been looking into it. I'm in my late 40's and it's always something I have wanted to do. There is a local college that has hands on classwork. Fillet, pipe and plate welding classes. Is there a certain one I should look at first?

Can you do one on managing your money earned and how to look at what’s needed for your business and what is not like equipment etc.

"The more freedom you have, the more constraints you have to put on yourself to succeed".

I think the big problem here is that people misunderstand what freedom is. To be free means you have responsibility. In years gone by (and frankly, today) there were many people who sold themselves into slavery to avoid responsibility. Most people on the planet actually prefer to be serf or slaves because it is simply easier. Being free doesn't mean your life will be easier with less work, but just the opposite. Unless you hire people to do work for you or your kids take over your business, but even then, making it big in the welding trade, or being a business owner period is a 24/7 job. You seem to get out of welding (and many other things) exactly what you put into it. Huge returns take huge amounts of effort.

My question has nothing to do with this needed message. Im 40 and im about a year out from starting welding school. Purchased a Ranger 225. I understand the stick and tig process through the welder. I have no idea how to mig with this machine. Do you have to purchase a mig kit accessory or should i just pick up a mig welder and run it off the generator? Apologies for the long comment.
