Why did Facebook go down? | The Facebook Outage

Around midday Eastern Time on October 4th, 2021 Facebook, along with WhatsApp, Instagram and Oculus, suddenly went down and were unavailable until 5 p.m.

This short interruption in services that we've grown to consider a regular part of our life, demonstrated how much the world has become dependent on a few tech companies, some of which have made controversial moves recently.

Didn't know it was down till I saw this on YouTube. Good thing this type of tech doesn't disrupt my life. But I'm scared for the future youth that depend on social media to get by.

Facebook itself being down wasn't a big deal for me, yes I use it, but one evening without it wasn't a huge loss for me. It was WhatsApp being down that gave me problems, as I talk to most of my family and friends on WhatsApp, it's lucky that we had iMessage as a backup.
