Welcome to a Learning how to Grow food on an Allotment Plot in the UK video. My name is Graeme and I started Allotment Gardening in Jan 2022 as a complete beginner on my first ever allotment plot, in the County of Warwickshire in the UK (That’s Zone 7). These are my allotment diaries.

Knowing nothing about planning, building and maintaining a successful allotment plot, these vlogs follow my journey as I have fun, learn how to grow food and share all the successes and failures (and there’s many) along the way.

What's my mission? (updated 2023)
In truth, I started this channel for friends and family to have a laugh at what I was doing as I enjoy making videos in my spare time, this channel has grown way beyond my humble expectations over time, which is something I am very proud of, I continue to simply have fun growing food, making creative content, and if inspire anyone to have a go at growing food, the results can be so rewarding. It’s a wonderful journey like no other!

Why would you want to subscribe to Where Graeme Grows? (It is free by the way)
Believe me, if I can grow anything that resembles edible food then anyone can do it. I’m generally armed with enthusiasm rather than gardening knowledge, but overtime it’s impossible not to learn.

What to do next….

Granted it's fun just sowing different seeds just to see what you enjoy, but after that you're right sow what you enjoy. After all it's a lot of work and management to come to harvest so you might as well sow what you eat and smile with every hardy bite. Awesome video my friend across the pond.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I’ve only grown veg we actually eat this year. Plants have got more space and I’ve had more time to water and weed them so there looking really heathy.

The Amethyst are lovely, , purple french bean that turns green when you cook it, , I’ve had a picking out of my greenhouse as I sow these indoors at the beginning of April then transfer them out into the greenhouse border when the night time temperatures are above 8 or 9 degrees, , Cobra are great too, they’ll all soon catch up and you’ll have beans galore, , best wishes, Lisa

I grow lots of stuff I eat and try out a couple of new crops each year that are difficult to find in shops and that I haven't tasted. Last year it was rainbow chard and I also tried sweetcorn as I'd not grown it before. This year year its kohlrabi and collard greens, never had either of those! I like most veg so trying new ones is great even if I'm not keen on the end product its all good compost material. Happy growing 😊

I’m just the same, on my first year I wanted to grow everything, I’m sorry but nobody could pay me enough to eat broad beans lol, I too am growing lots of beans as I love runner beans, mine are Enorma because my grandad used to grow them, cattle bush beans and Greek gigantis both for storing over winter, and dwarf French beans because they don’t take up much space and freeze lovely without the need of blanching first, god I love beans, I’ve already been looking for new varieties for next year, bean growing is very very addictive haha, great video, I love your vision and you energy, keep up the good work, Happy Days x

I like your new philosophy of only sowing what you eat, I know what I like that’s the main types of veg beans, peas, carrots, onions, cabbage, potatoes, beetroot and tomatoes.
I saw somebody the other day refer to a crop of Marge Two. I have googled and cannot find any ref to it, yet this person had a whole bed of it ?.

I planted some purple queen but they look like they want to climb with the blue lake beans lol. You don't do things by halves do you? 🤣 Bean frenzy incoming 😮 Have a good one and take care Graeme and Sarah 🤗

Have to agree, it makes good sense, and I'd add grow only what you can eat (or give away). I've had years where I'm sure people have got tired of my unloading an overabundance of courgettes onto them, I only plant out 2 or 3 at the most now, and I've had times where I've put more cabbage on the compost heap than on the table, turns out we only eat about 4 to 5 cabbages all season, a decent cabbage goes a long way for us so it's half a dozen planted out at most, the list goes on, I grow more summer fruits now for homemade jams, Ice Cream and fresh picked deserts. That said I do like to try something new each year just for the fun of it, this year it's pumpkin, see if I can grow myself some Halloween decorations.

😂😂 then there are the supposed bush bean 🫘 that grows 4’ tall 🤦🏼‍♀️. I grow lots of varieties of beans 🫘 and as they do not cross pollinate you can save seed for next year. I also sow beans (bush variety) right up to august and we were harvesting until mid October. Yep grow what you eat is a great rule to follow. It’s fun growing odd veg here and there but mostly we all learn to curb that impulse. Happy gardening 👩‍🌾, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Too organized to call Blair Witch, you’ll have to think of a different name. We love beans, I’ll have to plant more now. Thanks for the video ❤
