In other words we can't see the world as it truly is because we have eyes. And we can't understand the world as it truly is because we have a mind.

Which raises the interesting question: just what is the nature of a priori knowledge?

Kant shows that our perception of time and space depends of our sensory and mental apparatus. We only experience a slice of reality that depends on how our bodies interact with it. The theory of relativity shows this. I wonder if, without our bodies, our minds could carry on to exist on another facet of reality.

What is the nature of moral knowledge? Is it derived from sense experience mediated by the modes of apprehension? And, Aesthetic knowledge? How does it differ from empirical knowledge? It is dependent on sensory experience but not in the ways empirical knowledge is.

These are familiar questions and they are addressed by Kant in subsequent phases of his famous Enlightenment project. However, how these three phases hang together gets little notice.

Kant was more than a famed epidemiologist. There are mores sides to Kant than epidemiology and how these sides are one escapes the attention of our canon. This is a failing of scholarship, at least, in the English speaking world
