Will the same demand, increments and this lucrative packages will continue to be there for the next 8-10 years ?

I am a mechanical engineer with approx 2 year experience and wanted to shift to IT industry just because of the growth(salaries) that i heard. I started learning Java and few thoughts coming everyday i.e now the world is focusing more on software for packages and every one out there are doing some sort of courses to get into it and the new generation kids are learning it much earlier -which makes a good foundation and job ready my doubt is : if that huge number of people come into IT, WILL the market supports / that huge job openings will be available ?

I was stepping back just because of this thoughts regarding the future in IT. I am able to grasp the concepts well (what ever was thought in course until now). If someone can share their view points really helps me a lot
